Above The Underground began in 2002 as a Yahoo group with a simple mission:

"The mission of this group is to have no mission. Ideally, it is to bring writers of all sorts together in a mixed conglomeration of thoughts. Realists, romantics, culture, counter-culture, coming together for the sake of the write. Remember, don't be afraid to express yourself. Don't be afraid to stand out in a crowd. Those who are called weird and different today are called genius tomorrow. Just don't let it go to your head."

Despite the efforts of Sherman Smith, the co-creator, and myself, our mission failed. The effect of the group, however, was still strong on Sherman and me as we bantered back and forth in our posts. We since have let the Yahoo group fall away, but have not quit writing. This wiki represents some of the work of Sherman, me, and, eventually, friends and lovers we have met along the way.
